For our SESVanderHave Innovation Center in Tienen, we are looking for an Abiotic Project Manager.

Your function

  • You lead, manage and coordinate research projects and their budgets in the field of abiotic stresses (drought, heat, nutrition, etc.), in line with the requirements and the demands of our breeding departments.
  • You develop phenotyping tools, in particular using imaging and robotics.
  • You set up and supervise the different greenhouse and field experiments to assess the behaviour of the different species under abiotic stresses.
  • You develop and deliver methods and protocols for screening of abiotic stress resistance in plants that will be implemented and improved operationally by the breeding departments.
  • You deliver and report on the biological assays of the Biotic and Abiotic Stresses department regarding genetic resistance screening for a selected array of abiotic stresses.
  • You analyse and deliver phenotypic data to the different clients.
  • You follow up on specific projects, including collaborative projects with external partners.
  • You continously keep yourself up-to-date on technological and technical developments related to abiotic stress screening and physiological diagnosis from academia and other sources through literature search, participation to conferences and establishing contacts with external partners. You identify if and how these findings can be implemented and used in the department to increase screening efficiency to abiotic stresses.
  • You manage one direct report.
  • You organize performance management and training of the relevant employees.

Your profile

  • You have a Master in Plant Physiology with an interest in plant breeding or a related science area, or equivalent experience.
  • You have a passion for applied research, setting up and monitoring trials (in the greenhouse and on the field).
  • You have 3 to 5 years of relevant experience.
  • You have a good knowledge of French and English (oral and written), enabling you to work in an international environment.
  • You have an understanding of Project Management.
  • You have knowledge of Data Analysis and interpretation.
